PSP games go on sale at amazon.com

Some good deals here for those looking to expand their PSP collections.
Our pick? Viewtiful Joe. If you're looking for some mini-games, you may be interested in WTF. MLB and NBA are both rather solid sports titles for the handheld. Just make sure you avoid Gangs of London at all costs.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 29

There's nothing this week for North Americans. Seems we're slipping back into the dark ages again. However, John Koller says a dark age is not on the verge. He says the titles are coming. Hear that people? The titles are coming. We're looking forward to a PSP renaissance.

NA Games:
  • No new releases

Elsewhere in the world, since there are places other than North America, we're seeing a lot of stuff that isn't really "new" per se.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 22

This week has a healthy set of games. It's always nice to pencil in a game name or two instead of "no new releases," which, if you've been following this weekly post every Sunday, is something we got used to seeing. As the summer movies come in, so will their games; hence, why we have both Hellboy and Wall-E this week.

The Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 box art looks quite good. We're real suckers for flame designs and swirling energy.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 15

PSP releases are much better this week. There's a solid lineup for all major regions. Whether you want to shoot up aliens or sneak around in a robo tux, the option is there for you to choose.

NA Games:
EU Games:
Asian Games:
We can say we're quite jealous of the Crisis Core bundle that Europe is getting. Then again, we've already been playing the game for the past three months.

Deal of the Day: Downstream Panic! for $15

Fans of PSP's LocoRoco would heed our advice and find a copy of Atari's lovable Downstream Panic!. This PSP-exclusive puzzle game has stylish graphics, and fun gameplay -- yet never got the attention it deserved. Yes, this is another fantastic exclusive that was ignored, left to cry by the wayside.

Now that this innovative fish-saving game (seriously) has dropped to $15 on amazon.com, you have almost no choice not to buy it. Word to wise, however. In spite its ridiculously cute looks, this is one incredibly challenging puzzle game.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 8

No new releases for this week in North America. That's okay for us. We'll be too busy playing Metal Gear Solid 4 on our PS3s anyway. Besides, next week's releases are going to be great, so wait it out one more week ladies and gentlemen. Europe on the other hand is getting the most love for this week:

NA Games:
  • No new releases

Asian Games:
Pretty good week for Europe. It actually turns out that LEGO Indy is releasing this week. These silly retail dates; they keep jumping around everywhere. Thank God that World Championship Cards has shipped and we won't have to write about that again. Doh, we just did.

Deal of the Day: Every Extend Extra for $13

Cult shooter Every Extend Extra may not have reached the same acclaim as Q Entertainment's other PSP game, Lumines, but it's a pretty solid addition to one's PSP collection. In Every Extend Extra, players must strategically blow themselves up and create chains to damage enemies. The unique visuals and hypnotic soundtrack create a surreal experience. But be warned! The game is relentlessly difficult (unlike the XBLA sequel).

You can get it for $13 shipped at Play-Asia. It's a rather interesting PSP exclusive, so you may want to give it a try.

PSP game tops Japanese charts, not Monster Hunter

Konami's Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Portable 3, a baseball title, has topped Japan's weekly software charts this week. With a staggering 117,000 units sold, the game has sold double the amount of units over last week's top spot Pro Yakyuu Team o Tsukurou! (another baseball game) for the Nintendo DS.

Other PSP games are doing well. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is still in the charts since its release back in March. It has, however, dropped down from second place to fifth with 45,000 units sold this week. Valhalla Knights 2 pops up on the chart at number eight with 32,000 units sold. While all these third party titles are doing well in Japan, seeing such strength and support in Western markets is going to be harder to find.

PSP needs more third party titles

There's no doubt in our minds that this gaming drought surely needs to end. First party titles have been quite good in keeping us PSP gamers entertained, but what happened with third party titles? There has been a significant drop of PSP third party titles since the initial years of portable PlayStation and we're wondering where the future of PSP software is heading.

Pocket Gamer is thinking the same as they've asked their readers on what third party titles they would like to see appear on the PSP. The answers have been varied and, perhaps, this means there's still lots of options for developers to play around with. We know our own readers are quite vocal about what games they want, too, so we're posing the same question onto you. What sort of third party titles do you want to see on the PSP?

This week's PSP software deals

Circuit City (and amazon.com) are having sales on a few select PSP titles, one of which will be important for those wanting to catch up before next week's release of Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3. Portable Ops +, Patapon, and a number of solid PSP titles are all available for $10 each.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + $9.99
Patapon $9.99
LEGO Star Wars II $9.99
Mortal Kombat: Unchained $9.99
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition $9.99
Need for Speed: Most Wanted $9.99

Gamestop's Game Days sale is also going on. The full list of PSP games is available after the break.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 1

This week sees North America and Europe having the very same games out for release. Both regions are getting Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 (with the only different being in the name) and LEGO Indiana Jones: Original Adventures. With all things considered, this is quite a good week for PSP releases.

NA Games:

EU Games:
Asian Games:
  • No new releases
As for Japan and the rest of Asia, it seems that nothing new will grace store shelves. But that shouldn't matter; Japan has gotten way more in the past weeks than we have so it's time for them to slow things down a bit.

Deal of next month: Gamestop's US GameDays sale

Starting June 2, Gamestop will kickoff its annual GameDays sale in the US. Titles across the board are all getting their prices slashed by up to 50 percent. You might want to check that out if you're looking for some games over the summer and are on a tight budget. After the break, check out the full listing of discounted PSP titles or head on over to PS3 Fanboy for the PS3 listing.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of May 25

World Championship Cards is all about gambling. So, who's willing to bet that the game is not actually going to be in stores this week? Any takers? Well, the reason why we're calling out this bluff is because the game has been previously slated for release on numerous occasions before yet keeps popping up on our "out this week list." It's getting rather annoying. If it comes back one more time, forget it! We're not listing you, you silly card game no one wants anyway.

NA Games:

EU Games:
  • No New Releases
Asian Games:
Anyway, it's another solid week for Japan as the PSP continues to dominate. We guess we need some huge Monster Hunter craze on our continent if we want to have more games for the system.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of May 18

This week sees the release of UEFA Euro 2008 in North America. Unsurprisingly, Europe got the game about a month ahead us, hence the reason why Europe has no release this week. Unless you're a fan of European football, then there isn't really anything else for you at this time. If you are a rabid fan, then feel free to let out an "ole, ole, ole, ole!"

NA Games:
EU Games:
  • No New Releases
Asian Games:
Elsewhere in the world, they're going to get a chance to play some tactical turn-based warfare in Daisenryaku VII Exceed. It sounds like fun, but it would be nice, you know, if it were in English so we could play it.
